Hey gang! This is a newsletter about the AI clock, now called Poem/1 — a new ChatGPT poem every MINUTE on a gorgeous e-ink screen. You’re getting this email because you subscribed for updates. If you need it, the unsubscribe link is at the bottom of this email. If you’re along for the ride, thank you :)
Ok it’s all happening in 2024.
Let’s keep this update short and sweet.
🙈 Kickstarter in a couple weeks
The moment we’ve been waiting for: the campaign has been approved by Kickstarter, and the page is just waiting for me to smash that Launch button. ARGH.
The timeline is quick from now on!
Industrial design first look: next week
Campaign will launch: following week (I’ll give you a heads up first)
In the meantime… tweaking the assets, double-checking the spreadsheet.
The vibe is lo-fi old-school Kickstarter, no fancy video production, no keynotes or black polo necks.
Got any press contacts? Send them my way!
I’m very much up for press to coincide with the campaign launch.
So… are you a journalist? Reckon there’s a story here? Get in touch. You could have first reveal of the design, and I’ve got an online demo of the clock so you can get a feel of the vibe yourself.
If you’re wondering ‘hey I do media and Matt hasn’t reached out to ME yet’ then it’s not because I don’t love you, I’m writing to my peeps on this substack as priority #1. Email me :)
🏃 Other updates
New name! The AI clock is now called Poem/1.
I’ve changed production partner since we last spoke. Now manufacturing in China, not Mexico, with a partner that several of my hardware startup buddies also go with. I’m very happy with them. The campaign goal is now lower although the unit cost is a bit higher. But ha THAT was a busy few weeks.
Yeah and I’m trying to record a time lapse video to show off the variety of poems…
Press!
Speaking of press — thank you Bloomberg for using my AI clock tweet in this video interview with Mira Murati, OpenAI CTO. It’s from a few months back but I missed it first time round.
Watch: Inside OpenAI, the Architect of ChatGPT, featuring Mira Murati (Bloomberg Originals on YouTube).
I’ll be in touch next week. Till then,
Matt x
